$1,500 Scholarship Awarded to Mr. Christian McCuen

The AACE - Seattle Section is very pleased to announce that Mr. Christian McCuen, a junior in construction management at the University of Washington in Seattle, has been awarded a $1,500 joint scholarship from AACE International and the Seattle Section.  In Christian's own words:

"I have always liked construction and have wanted to have a long career in the industry. Heavy/Civil Construction has sparked my interest ever since I was young. Dirt, diesel, and heavy equipment run through my veins. None of my family have worked construction or gone to a university, but I aim to change that.

Christian McCuenI graduated from a small private school in Kirkland, WA, where my graduating class was 10 people. I then did two years in a leadership/character building school based out of my church. After that, I chose to pursue my bachelor's degree in construction management from my favorite school, the University of Washington. So far, I have no debt and am continuing to work while going to school in order to pay my tuition and graduate with no school debt. I currently work for Granite Construction on the SR 520 Expansion Project in Bellevue. I am also an employee at Christ Church Kirkland, working as a janitor in charge of building maintenance and security.

In short, my life is very full right now, but I am doing EXACTLY what I have wanted to do: pursue a career in construction. I aim to have an impact in the industry and possibly own my own company one day. I am excited to see where my career goes in the next 5-10 years after I graduate and I look forward to doing my part to help bring the American economy back on its feet."

Christian was introduced at our May 10th meeting.  Please join us in congratulating him on this award!
